I haven't been to Genki Sushi for quite some time, but I went two days ago. Boy was that a bit disappointing visit.
As we enter, I notice full tables. 15 minute wait? No problem. We are seated by our kind host. A few people in my party order soup. I immediately notice it's wayyyy to salty, even for miso soup. I brush that aside, for my rolls, a mere 5 minutes after ordering, have arrived. They are melt in your mouth good!
Fifteen bit pricy plates later, I notice that the conveyer belt is gone. I am pretty sure it was removed because something that happened in the Kaneohe (?) location. I remember reading it was a cockroach infestation. Correct me if I am wrong. Still I was disappointed.

This place was very cute, love the idea of convert belt sushi delivered as order. Prices were a little much, but hey, it's Hawaii and they're gonna overcharge you when they can.
The sushi satisfied my craving so I'd go back to this place if I wanted sushi again in Hawaii. I'm giving it 3 stars because it's affordable sushi, with different tapas for everyone to try a little bit of everything. But the fish didn't melt in my mouth and the flavors weren't unique so it wasn't the best grade and that's why I took away 2 stars. -

This location is literally a rip-off! $6.15 for black plates with only 4 small pieces of sushi? Ridiculous. $5.15 for two pieces of 3.5inch ebi fry? No, thank you! Quality of fish is still just aight. If you're looking for a quick sushi fix at Ala Moana, this specific Genki location might suffice. You'd honestly probably get much more for your money going somewhere else though (like Ahi and Vegetable on the other side of the mall). Even Ninja sushi gives bigger rolls (6 big pieces) for a $6-$7 roll
On a positive note, service is always friendly and fast-paced.

Genki Sushi has always been a favorite place for quick cheap sushi. I used to go to the older locations back in my UH days but now they aren't even there. My classmate took me here after beach day for a late lunch at Ala Moana. We sat at the sushi bar on stools.
Wow has it evolved. The have the fastest ever sushi trains forget boats or the sushi belt that goes around in a circle. This is a straight to the point quick as hell personalized train that goes straight to you and back to the kitchen within seconds. I love it! It's so much fun but that's how they get you to order more. Remember the days of stacking your colored plates then the wait staff would tally up your total. Now it's all digital with a electronic menu.
My friend is a vegetarian and she tried some menu items I would never think of but tasted great. Vegetable croquettes were actually really good. We also had the Kappa Maki, Poke Roll, Ahi Poke, Spicy Tuna Temaki hand roll, Cucumber Maki Roll, Oshinko Maki. We skipped beverages and just had waters with lemons.
You get what you pay for at Genki, it's like the fast food version of sushi. Presentation is ok but again it's not a fancy sushi joint. Don't expect huge rolls these are very small. However, the place is clean, the service is great, and paying at the end went smooth. There was no line and no waiting. Can't wait to come back. Aloha~ -

There's lots of Genki Sushi locations. This location is on the mall level... you can't miss it! When you check in with a staff, they will ask you if you prefer the booth or countertop. Depending on the crowd and your hunger status, the countertop has a quicker turnover.
I used to come to Genki Sushi a lot, but the servings (IMO) got smaller and the quality seems questionable. I like the "bullet train" and iPad touch menu - a great feature for the keiki. The service was good - they were tentative with our water and teas, and was patient with a child I was babysitting. She had a question about one of their items.
This location is in a great area, but I wish they produced a better product.
